Toyota is starting the production of hybrid drive engines in a modern factory with automatic internal transport

The Toyota factory in Jelcz-Laskowice begins production of the latest generation of 2.0-liter gasoline engines, designed as part of the Toyota TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) global platform.

The modern two-liter, four-cylinder TNGA engine with a capacity of 2.0 liters can work with an electric hybrid transmission in hybrid drives or constitute an independent unit in conventional drives. It will be installed in the hybrid drive of the Corolla Hatchback and TS Kombi, as well as in the conventional drive of the Toyota RAV4.

From the production side, TNGA means the design of automated production lines characterized by automatic transport of the workpiece processed in the process. And, as a result, higher efficiency, modular line design enabling the production of various types of components or drives on one production line, as well as better work ergonomics and less impact on the environment.

As part of the investment amounting to a total of PLN 770 million for both TNGA engines, 540 new machines and devices were installed, including numerically controlled machine tools, robots and self-propelled trolleys.

MOBOT AGV mobile robots< /a> is a solution compliant with Industry 4.0 standards, with high availability and the possibility of efficient and easy control, as well as ensuring high efficiency and safety, which automates transport and internal logistics.

The demand for Toyota's low-emission technology on the Old Continent is growing very quickly. Currently, every second Toyota car in Europe (52%) and every third car in Poland (35%) is sold in a hybrid version. As a result, projects located in Poland are developing very quickly and the second and third production shifts are launched in a short period of time.

Toyota low-emission hybrid technology

Hybrid cars use two energy sources - gasoline and electric. During braking, the hybrid car's kinetic energy is recovered and converted into electricity, thanks to which the vehicle consumes less fuel. Toyota considers hybrid technology an important step on the way to full electromobility. This technology provides customers with the best ecological, economical and convenient solution currently available on the market, and provides cities with a ready-made tool to fight smog.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland (TMMP)

TMMP has two plants located in Lower Silesia. The factory in Wałbrzych produces electric transmissions for low-emission hybrid cars with a 1.8-litre engine, 1-litre petrol engines and manual and semi-automatic gearboxes. Its current annual production capacity reaches 175,000 electric transmissions for hybrid drives, 258,000 engines and 633,000 gearboxes.

The plant in Jelcz-Laskowice produces 1.5-litre petrol engines. After launching production lines of new 2.0-litre and 1.5-litre engines designed using TNGA technology, the factory's production capacity will amount to 309,000 drive units per year.

TMMP factories supply Toyota, PSA Group and Lotus car assembly plants operated by European companies: in the Czech Republic, Great Britain, France, Turkey and Russia, and outside Europe: in South Africa and Japan.
